.jpg) All-district softball performer Sydney Tubby of Choctaw Central High School has become the latest signee for head coach Kate Neely’s EMCC Lady Lions. SCOOBA – Sydney Tubby of Choctaw Central High School has become East Mississippi Community College’s most recent softball signee, as announced Tuesday by EMCC head softball coach Kate Neely.
A three-year starter for the Lady Warriors, Tubby started as a catcher this past season after having played the previous two years at third base. As a senior, Tubby ranked second on the team in hitting at .436 with two doubles and a pair of triples to earn all-district honors by a vote of the head coaches. She was also named the Lady Warriors’ Defensive MVP this past year in helping lead head coach Mike Luke’s 2009 CCHS squad to the program’s first playoff appearance in five years with a 6-8 overall record.
Tubby joins previously announced EMCC softball signees Nashedra Barry (Columbus HS), Leigh Ellen Barefield (Neshoba Central HS), Shakari Stribling (Meridian HS), J’Quandra Hickman (Meridian HS), Megan Ladner (Poplarville HS), Chelsea Theriot (Poplarville HS), DeShuni Sanders (Hew Hope HS), Mallory Pace (Northeast Lauderdale HS), Justine Jenkins (Caledonia HS), Katie Newman (Oak Hill Academy), Courtney Castleberry (Clarkdale HS), and Celeste Fontenot (Brusly [La.] HS).

.jpg) EMCC head baseball coach Tony Montgomery will conduct a four-day summer baseball camp July 19-23 on the Scooba campus. SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College invites interested campers to pre-register for the school’s summer baseball camp. With spots still available for day campers and overnight campers, EMCC’s upcoming baseball camp is set for July 19-23 on the Scooba campus.
Set to be conducted by EMCC head baseball coach Tony Montgomery and assistant coach Josh Snider, the Lions’ overnight camp begins Sunday, July 19. The four-day, four-night overnight camp is open to children 8 years of age and older at a cost of $315 if pre-registered by Wednesday, July 15. EMCC’s overnight camp will include five daily 90-minute teaching sessions plus three full meals and additional snack/refreshment breaks each day throughout the week.
Available to children 6 years of age and older at a cost of $195 if pre-registered by July 15, East Mississippi’s day camp will feature four 90-minute teaching sessions per day along with daily lunches and snack/refreshment breaks.

.jpg) East Mississippi Community College had 11 NJCAA Academic All-Americans honored for the 2008-09 school year. In addition, the EMCC baseball team earned NJCAA All-Academic Team recognition for having a composite team grade point average of 3.00 or better. SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College had 11 student-athletes earn Academic All-America recognition for the 2008-09 academic year, as announced this week by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) office headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Coach Tony Montgomery’s EMCC baseball team led the way with a pair of Distinguished Academic All-Americans and three other Academic All-Americans, as the Lions also collected All-Academic Team honors for having a composite team grade point average of better than 3.00. Individually, reserve outfielder Brandon Williams of Hickory (3.89 GPA) and starting first baseman Cody Brownlee of Nettleton (3.81) garnered Distinguished Academic All-America status by compiling cumulative grade point averages of 3.80 or higher.
Also on the diamond for the Lions, former West Lauderdale standout Luke Walker (3.76), Preston’s Corey Luke (3.71) and Cody Bennett of Hernando (3.63) all achieved NJCAA Academic All-America honors by maintaining cumulative GPAs between 3.60 and 3.79.
Highlighting East Mississippi’s individual classroom achievements this past academic year, Lady Lion softball standouts Josie Matthews and Sara Havard of Meridian’s West Lauderdale High School both achieved perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point averages during their two-year careers on the Scooba campus. Fellow West Lauderdale and EMCC teammate Brooke Lee (3.72) earned NJCAA Academic All-America status for head coach Kate Neely’s 24-23 Lady Lions this past season.
As a member of head women’s basketball coach Sharon Thompson’s NJCAA Tournament ballclub, Starkville’s Miari Franklin (3.69) was an Academic All-America recipient for the MACJC North Division and NJCAA Region 23 champions.
Rounding out EMCC’s list of academic honorees from this past academic year were Distinguished Academic All-American Wyatt Jenkins of Caledonia (3.85) and Academic All-American Miranda Minor (3.70) of New Hope High School, who both participated for head coach Junior Noel’s East Mississippi soccer program.

.jpg) EMCC soccer coach Junior Noel will conduct a summer soccer camp July 13-16 on the Scooba campus. SCOOBA – With the school’s Scooba campus readying for women’s basketball, football and softball camps in the coming week, East Mississippi Community College has added a soccer camp to its summer camp schedule.
Open to boys and girls from 6 to 16 years of age, EMCC’s 2009 Soccer Camp will be held July 13-16 in Scooba. At a cost of $50 per child, daily camp sessions are slated for 5:00-7:30 p.m. on each of the four days. A camp T-shirt and refreshments will be provided. Campers are encouraged to bring soccer footwear for the camp.

This week around the EMCC campus, the East Mississippi women’s basketball camp is scheduled for June 22-24, while the school’s softball camp is set for June 25-26. EMCC will also offer a week-long baseball camp July 19-23 on the Scooba campus. In addition, the Lions’ football coaching staff is offering a 7-of-7 Passing Camp on June 24 and a Lineman Camp on July 7-9.

.jpg) Stephen Denton of North Pontotoc High School has become East Mississippi Community College’s most recent men’s soccer signee. SCOOBA – Stephen Denton of North Pontotoc High School has become the latest men’s soccer signee for head coach Junior Noel at East Mississippi Community College.
A five-year starter for head coach Joe Hunsucker at North Pontotoc, Denton helped lead the 2008 Vikings to a 12-4-2 record en route to claiming the Division 1-3A championship last fall. Individually, Denton earned the club’s Leadership Award as a senior team captain.
Denton collected seven career goals while primarily playing the defensive stopper position during his varsity career at North Pontotoc.
Denton joins previously announced EMCC men’s soccer signees Mike Hayward of Columbus High School, Starkville’s Eduardo Fumo, Brandon’s Brian Meza, James Nichols of Northwest Rankin, Saltillo’s Josh Harden, Justin Knight of Quitman, Heidelberg Academy’s Corey Devun, along with the Caledonia High School trio of Tyler Pounders, Taylor Chisolm and Seth Wood. |
