EMCC'S MILLER SIGNS WITH ALABAMA A&M Print E-mail

Basketball player Shaurice Miller, who graduated from East Mississippi Community College in May, has signed with Alabama A&M University. Miller, a forward for EMCC in the 2007-08 season, is pictured on signing day with EMCC women’s head basketball coach Sharon Thompson. As one of only two sophomores on the team, she helped lead the Lady Lions to a berth in the state tournament – and played in the JUCO All-Star Game. During her two years at EMCC, she maintained a 3.4 grade point average and plans to major in computer engineering at Alabama A&M. A native of Meridian, Miller is also an alumna of Meridian High School.

Soccer player LaDarius Johnson, left, has signed with East Mississippi Community College in Scooba. He is shown with his guardian, Thelma Jenkins, and EMCC head soccer coach Junior Noel. A graduate of St. Joseph High School in Greenville, Johnson will play center mid-field for the EMCC Lions. Johnson will major in biochemistry and plans a career as a physician, with a specialty in oncology. Soccer player Shane Hood, left, has signed with East Mississippi Community College in Scooba. The son of Mike and Laura Hood of Amory, he is shown on signing day with his mother and EMCC head soccer coach Junior Noel. FLEMING SIGNS WITH SOUTHERN POLYTECHNIC Print E-mail

FlemingBen Fleming, co-captain of East Mississippi Community College’s 2007-08 baseball team, has signed with Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Ga., where he will play for coach Matt Griffin. A graduate of New Hope High School in Columbus, Ben Fleming is the son of Walter Fleming, and David and Kathi Coleman, and the grandson of Denny and Bessie Fleming of Quitman. Over his two-year career at EMCC, Fleming maintained a .350 batting average – with 300 trips to the plate, 105 hits, 22 doubles, four triples and 17 home runs. He had 90 RBI’s, was 26 for 28 on stolen base attempts and his on-base percentage was .490. Fleming plans to major in exercise science at Southern Polytechnic.
